The Background
Paint the background with a dark purple of French Ultramarine and Permanent Alizarin Crimson. This is the complement of the yellow within the centre of the flower and should help highlight this bright colour.

As this is predominantly a pale coloured painting it is a good idea to lighten any of your pencil marks still showing as they may not all be erasable later in the painting.
